Living Memorial Sculpture Garden

On County Road A12 off of Highway 97 north of Weed is the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden. Dennis Smith is the artist. The Garden is about war and is dedicated to all American veterans. It does not glorify war, nor does it criticize the propensity of nations to go to war. "The Why Group" is at the thematic center of the Garden. Why war? Why not war? Why me? Why not me? The gaunt bronze figures act out these questions; they do not answer them. Nor will the labyrinth off to one side, though it might bring some peace of mind. On the way to the labyrinth is a piece of found art that perhaps stands for the entire garden. An accidental rock has nestled in an unintended hole in one of the bricks that form the path. The hole was not made for it, nor does it fit comfortably in the hole. Nevertheless, rock and hole have found each other.
